Queijeiras Project in the Media
Last July 9th the tv show “Casa Feliz” from SIC channel received the Queijeiras project, namely the coordinator of Aldeias de Montanha Célia Gonçalves and 3 cheese makers who are members of the project: Graciete Marques, from Seia, Célia Silva, from Celorico da Beira, and Paula Lameiras, from Oliveira do Hospital.
To celebrate the 100th episode of the soap opera “A Serra”, the tv show “Casa Feliz” decided to show the best that is done in the Serra da Estrela, inviting shepherds, cheese makers, cooks, etc. The Queijeiras project couldn’t be left out and it was very positive to be able to divulge this innovative project that intends to change the lives of so many women from Serra da Estrela.
After our cheese-makers presented their excellent products – the traditional cheeses of the region (which left presenters João Baião and Diana Chaves’ mouths watering), we presented our Queijeiras covers, namely in three colours: Daring/Electric Blue, Serenity/Argila and Original/Pearl. With the purpose of financing the training of cheese makers, these Burel covers are an example and a reference of how it is possible to maintain traditional production processes combining an innovative design. Burel is a high quality textile product, manufactured with respect for environmental rules and which contributes to the maintenance of local mountain ecosystems. Even João Baião wanted to try a cape with impact!
At the end, we couldn’t help inviting Diana Chaves to be an ambassador of our project, wearing a Queijeira cape in her everyday life.

The tv show “Somos Portugal” from TVI channel was in Oliveira do Hospital last 22 of August and we had the privilege of participating in it to present the Queijeiras Project.
With the presence of the cheesemakers Paula Lameiras, Judite Pinto and Vera Moura, the presenters Mónica Jardim and João Montez showed the project’s moulds and its beautiful Burel covers.
It was a pleasure to make our impact project known and also to gain another ambassador, Mónica Jardim.
The Queijeiras Project was highlighted by Turismo do Centro de Portugal as a good practice of inclusive tourism in the Central Region.
Last 27 September, the World Tourism Day was celebrated, this year with the theme “Tourism for an inclusive growth” and Turismo do Centro de Portugal decided to highlight the best practices of tourism that contributes to an integrated and inclusive development. The Queijeiras Project was highlighted, along with initiatives such as the Biological Park of Serra da Lousã, the DARC – Quinta da Muralha, the Hotel Casas da Lapa (our partner in the Mountain Village of Lapa dos Dinheiros), the Live Forest Science Centre (Proença-a-Nova), the Interpretation Centre of the Battle of Vimeiro (CIBV), the Microninho ISI Project – Social Incubator of Innovation of Figueira da Foz
This highlight also merited a beautiful illustration by Cláudia Joaquim Art, for which we are very grateful.

Launch of a transforming project for extraordinary women. Starting from the Aldeias de Montanha (Mountain Villages) and Serra da Estrela, connecting knowledge and flavours to design, fashion and female empowerment. It all starts with the design of a burel cover, followed by a book that will tell the stories of ancestral ways of making and culminates in a training course to open paths for the future!

Well, we already knew the answer. It is for this and other reasons that the Queijeiras project was born – to dignify and recognise the women who make the great Portuguese cheese (no offence to the people of São Jorge), an article written by Edgardo Pacheco.
